Announcing the Launch of the Flesh and Blood Learn to Play (L2P) Certification Program

Greetings, Flesh and Blood Judges!

It is with great excitement that we officially announce the launch of the Learn to Play (L2P) Certification Program—a pivotal initiative aimed at empowering judges to take the lead in introducing new players to Flesh and Blood. As judges, we are not just custodians of fair play but ambassadors of the game. The L2P program is designed to equip you with the skills, resources, and recognition to create unforgettable learning experiences for new players and help grow our vibrant community.

I’ve got the honor of being selected to lead this endeavor. I’m an experienced Level 2 judge with a passion for fostering inclusive and engaging communities. Furthermore, I have been part of shaping the L2P program since its creation, and along with the project team, I am dedicated to ensuring the program reflects the values of our community and meets the standards we all strive for.

The Philosophy Behind L2P

The philosophy of L2P is simple yet profound: introducing a player to Flesh and Blood is more than explaining the rules—it’s about creating a memorable, engaging, and welcoming experience. L2P-certified judges embody three core skills:

  1. People Skills: Building rapport with players, making them feel valued, and representing the Flesh and Blood community with warmth and enthusiasm.
  2. Delivery Skills: Teaching the game effectively, using official terminology, and guiding players toward resources that will help them continue their journey.
  3. Collaboration Skills: Working cohesively with other judges and event staff, mentoring peers, and fostering a culture of growth and teamwork.

These pillars form the foundation of the L2P program, ensuring that certified judges are not only knowledgeable but also inspiring ambassadors for the game.

What We've Created and Why

To fulfill this vision, the L2P team has developed a comprehensive certification framework tailored to the needs of judges and players alike. Here’s what we’ve built:

Public Guide: A detailed document outlining best practices for teaching Flesh and Blood, understanding player needs, and promoting the game effectively. This guide serves as a valuable resource for anyone interested in improving their L2P skills. You may find the links here:

Certification Process: A two-step system:

    1. Online Test: A scalable multiple-choice exam designed to assess knowledge of people, delivery, and collaboration skills. This will award the “Learn to Play – Basic” certification.
    2. Practical Endorsement: A recommendation from an event organizer or certification leader based on performance at an L2P booth. This will award the “Learn to Play – Advanced” certification.

This approach ensures the program is both accessible and rigorous, producing judges who are ready to excel in this role.

How to Get Certified

To achieve L2P certification, candidates must:

  1. Be a certified Flesh and Blood judge (Level 0 or higher).in good standing
  2. Pass the online test, which evaluates the essential skills outlined above, and achieve the “Learn to Play – Basic” certification.
  3. Receive a recommendation based on performance at an L2P booth and getting awarded “Learn to Play – Advanced”.

Once certified, judges are empowered to represent the game at LGS events and conventions, promoting growth and creating lasting impressions on new players.

The success of the L2P program depends on the contributions of passionate judges like you. Here’s how you can get involved:
