End of Year Article: Judge Program 2022

Judges, event staff, and all those following the Flesh and Blood Judge Program, what an amazing 2022 it has been! From our first pro-tour event, to the establishment of official community roles, 2022 has shaped up to be the most important year for the Judge Program so far. Let’s look a bit into the amazing things that happened and the shape the Judge Program is taking at the moment as well as what is to come in the future.

The Events of 2022

2022 has brought many events and challenges, the Proquest seasons leading to the first ever Pro Tour in New Jersey as well as the Pro Tour in Lille, Nationals seasons, and the final big event in San Jose, the World Championships! Hundreds and hundreds of events with thousands of players enjoying amazing games of Flesh and Blood which all the judges and staff, from Prerelease and ProQuests up to the Worlds Championship, made possible. Thank you all for your roles to make it all happen!

In addition to the great events this year, we’ve also had the release of the Comprehensive Rules 2.0 and a complete rewrite of the Procedure and Penalty Guide. Feedback from the the community was a critical part of balancing the philosophy and intentions of Legend Story Studios with the experience and practicality from the our Judges. We hope to continue this relationship with the community to ensure that we can create the best resources possible for our Organized Play events.

The Judge Program Development of 2022

This year has brought a wider roll-out of the Judge Program for Flesh and Blood.
The start of JudgeHub made many things easier or enabled them in general, like testing, judge list, event overview and applications. Some numbers that are very impressive:

  • 3,300+ JudgeHub accounts have been created
  • 2,500+ judges are certified L0 or above
  • Judges have written 84,236 words reviewing each other on the platform
  • Judges have submitted 966 applications to 89 events on the platform
  • Candidates have seen 266,500 questions and given 203,355 correct answers across 8,056 exams

Another big part was the roll-out of different community roles over the second half of the year.

We were able to create an amazing system that enables judges to bring in their energy and commitment for the Judge Program and help develop it. This consists of different project leads and their team members, as well as the Judge Community Representatives and their leads. This system offers us an amazing opportunity to grow the Judge Program for the next years and enable great support for new and current judges alike.

Judge Community Representative selection results

With the end of the year, we are also proud to announce the results of the application process for the local Judge Community Representatives and the last remaining lead for Asia Pacific. Congratulations to Kai An Tsai from Taiwan!

You can find (almost) all our Judge Community Representatives below!
A huge thank you to the JCR leads that facilitated this and the application process.

*For two regions, we are in the final interviews and expect to be able to update this list early January.

This amazing group of judges will lay the foundation, but fear not, if you missed the applications or did not have time! All the positions are rotating and Judge Community Representative will have new selections around the end of 2023 as well. Even until then you will have enough possibilities to not only judge events but also participate in different community groups.

Outlook for 2023

As most things currently are starting within the community projects and Judge Program, the main focus is to advance these in an orderly fashion and provide the resources to grow a community structure and vision for judges to aim towards.

This includes, for example, the following items:

  • Dedicated JudgeHub Blog, Facebook page, and YouTube Channel
  • Regular articles and content, by judges, for judges
  • Organized publishing schedule for posts (official/unofficial)
  • Fully developing the judge conference system, including a community lead team
  • Rolling out the new system for judge foils and judge gifts
  • New certifications above L2, including skills like team leading and head judging

There will be regular updates in the new year with more information to the items above.

We are looking forward to many adventures we want to create together in order to form an amazing judge community for an amazing game!
